recieved a few messages here on Facebook about the basic jump forward
and back to dog pose. I learned these playful jumpings using bricks from
Carrie Owerko a couple of years ago and I wanted to share some of that
in this video (I use the words bricks and blocks interchangeably. Most
of my teachers are old school and still say bricks.) Anyway, you get the
idea here. Try it out! I'll make another video to show some asanas one
can work on to build arm and core strength for the jumps. Thanks for

Documentation
is key. I never imagined I could play around with such a pose on my
own but after spending five workshops with the wonderful Carrie Owerko
I definitely got a good primer to practice this asana. Carrie said it
best, "Mandalasana is not a posture, it's a process." She also talked
about observing the turning of a circle. When a circle rotates, it is
changeless and changing at the same time. It's the one geometric form
that when you rotate it it's always a circle …

Here is a clip of Carrie at IYISF in October of 2014 when I took my first workshop with her. She taught us playful transitions in standing poses such as this one jumping from Adho Mukha Svanasana (downward facing dog pose) to Ardha Chandrasana (half moon pose) to Adho Mukha Vrksasana (downward facing tree pose, aka full arm balance ) and back to dog pose🙌

Carrie Owerko has inspired me beyond my own imagination. She has an amazing gift to present play, power and precision all at once. I look forward to studying with her every time she returns to the Bay Area. She is coming to the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco Fri, Oct 21st - Sun, Oct 23rd for weekend workshops on dynamic alignment, and then to the East Bay at Adeline Yoga Studio Mon, Oct 24th for workshops geared towards yoga teachers and serious practitioners.
